Hey, Podcasters

If you produce a podcast, this page will give you all the info you need to know about Sofa’s podcast player:

  • How Sofa works with podcasts
  • How to link your show with Sofa
  • How to create “subscribe” links for your show to work with Sofa
  • Icons and buttons to use for your website and graphics
  • and other details

Inclusion in Sofa

iTunes

Sofa uses the iTunes Search API for all podcast data. When a users searches for a podcast in Sofa, the data is coming directly from iTunes. As long as your podcast is included in Apple Podcasts/iTunes, it should be searchable in Sofa.

Sofa will read your RSS feed, and download episodes directly from your servers to each listener’s device. This doesn’t interfere with your stats or content at all.

Private Feeds

Sofa allows users to add any podcast feed, including private feeds, by simply pasting the feed into the search box. This follows the same process outlined above about reading the feed and downloading content to user devices.

Sofa does not display, share, or recommend any of these feeds to other users.

Linking your show page

Sofa allows for linking directly to a “subscribe” page in the app.

There is a handy Podcast Button Builder that will generate the correct URL for your show, and even create a button for you to use on your website.

Chapter Support

Sofa displays MP3 chapter markers with titles and images. You can easily add chapter markers to your podcasts with Forecast.

User Agents

Sofa’s uses the following HTTP User-Agent string for its episode downloads:

Sofa (iOS 18.2; iPhone)

These User-Agents only apply to audio-file downloads, not requests to your feed.
